A clean supply-and-demand diagram doesn't impress UK economics markers. A diagram that does analytical work - supporting a specific claim with labelled shifts - absolutely does.
Use diagrams analytically
Every diagram should appear at the moment your argument needs it, with axes and curves clearly labelled, and at least two sentences explaining the shift it depicts. Reference the diagram in the body text by figure number.
Critique the model
UK economics tutors love a candidate who acknowledges model assumptions (perfect competition, no externalities, rational agents) and weighs how the conclusion changes when assumptions are relaxed.
